Member Roster and roles
Institution Leadership Roles/Responsibilities
The following definitions/responsibilities of the lead roles are very general and based on Section 2 of the Alliance Policies and Procedures.
All persons with the following roles are required to receive broadcast e-mails: Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, Lead CRP, Secondary Lead CRP.
Lead Network/Institution Roles:
All persons with lead roles must register in RCR as an Investigator (PI/Co-PI) or Associate Plus (Lead and Secondary Lead CRPs)
Principal Investigator (PI):
Network PI: The member network PI is responsible for all aspects of the Alliance program at all network sites, including affiliates. The network PI receives communications from the Alliance regarding performance (ie. Audit Reports, Membership Accrual Reports, and Institutional Performance Evaluation Reports) of each site within the network.
A network PI must be rostered to the Tier I (LAPS, NCORP, and Main Member) member site and be assigned the PI role. There can be only 1 network PI. A change in PI requires a letter of notification of the change signed by both the outgoing and incoming PI addressed to the Group Chair and a copy of the incoming PIs CV or Biosketch. The documents should be submitted to the Membership Manager at Membership@AllianceNCTN.org.
Institutional PI: The institutional PI is responsible for all aspects of the Alliance program at the institution. This includes oversight and appointment of investigators and research staff responsible for Alliance activities. Each site must have a PI rostered and assigned the PI role. The PI can be the same as the Tier I PI or can be specific to the site or multiple sites. There can be only 1 PI per site. All PIs must have the site(s) for which he/she is serving as PI list on the RCR 1572 and be added to the roster for the site(s).
Note: RUMS will reflect the roles as PI and does not differentiate between network and institutional. Network vs institutional is known by virtue of the site the PI holds the role.
Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI): The Co-PI assumes the PI responsibilities if the PI is unavailable for a significant amount of time. All Tier I sites are required to have a Co-PI. Tier II and Tier III sites can have Co-PIs identified but it is not required. There can be only 1 Co-PI per network/site.
Lead Clinical Research Professional (L-CRP): The L-CRP receives and distributes communications, including performance reports, from the Alliance and serves as the primary contact for the network. The L-CRP has authorization to manage the institution rosters via CTSU RUMS or NCORP-Sys. The L-CRP must be rostered to each site within the member network, including the Tier I sites. There can be only 1 L-CRP per network. The Alliance Membership Manager (membership@allianceNCTN.org ) processes all changes in L-CRP.
Secondary Lead Clinical Research Professional (SL-CRP): A SL-CRP should be designated to serve as back up for the L-CRP. Each site should have a SL-CRP identified. There can be only 1 SL-CRP per site. The SL-CRP can be specific to 1 site or multiple sites. The SL-CRP role can be requested via RUMS but must be approved by Alliance roster personnel. To prevent delays in processing the SL-CRP request, please withdraw the role from the current SL-CRP prior to requesting the role for the new SL-CRP.
Roster Management
The Lead Clinical Research Professional (L-CRP) and Secondary Lead Clinical Research Professional (SL-CRP) are authorized to manage the Alliance rosters.
LAPS and Non-LAPS/Non-NCORP Funded Members
The Lead CRP must request all non-NCORP member additions or deletions through RUMS. Persons with lead roles cannot be withdrawn unless there is a second request to add the lead role to another person.
NCORP Members
The NCORP administrator or designee should make all changes, additions or deletions for persons on NCORP institution rosters via NCORP-SYS at https://applications.prevention.cancer.gov/ncorp-sys/home/
Roles Management for All Institutional Members
The L-CRP or SL-CRP are authorized to maintain roles for persons already on the institution’s roster through the RUMS. The Alliance roles provide specific authorizations to Alliance websites, reports, and systems as indicated table below:
